Departing from Queenstown escape the crowds as we journey along the edge of Lake Wakatipu to Twelve Mile Delta stopping for photos along the scenic route. Choose to a mountain hike or a lakeshore walk around the area’s native beech forest.
A favourite with locals, the 6km walking trail takes you through native bush and showcases Queenstown’s gold mining history. Following Twelve Mile Creek, our guide will introduce you to native birds and plants as you wander through beech forest to impressive views of Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding mountains. Learn about the region’s gold mining history as we detour from the trail to historic Sam Summers Hut and onto an impressive rock tunnel to the waterfall below once used by gold miners as a tail race. The trail then descends through Manuka and native bush revealing scenic views of Lake Dispute. Includes a morning or afternoon tea.
While this is a well-formed walking track, the first half of this trail is an uphill climb with some steep sections.
