Experience incredible scenic views of Mount Aspiring National Park’s lakes, valleys and mountains on one of New Zealand’s oldest trails. Learn about the history and landscape of the region and stop for photos as you journey along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to the start of your day hike on the famous Routeburn Track. Start your 13km hike with a steady ascent through native beech forest with your experienced and knowledgeable guide discovering native plants and birdlife. After following old Maori greenstone trails through the forest you’ll be rewarded with impressive mountain scenery on Routeburn Flats where you’ll enjoy a delicious picnic lunch surrounded by the mountains before heading back through the forest.
Depending on the fitness levels of the group and weather conditions, there may be the option to continue the guided walk a further 6km to Routeburn Falls.
Due to the nature of the terrain and the distance covered, a reasonable level of fitness is required. The track is well-formed with steep, rough and uneven sections.
